About Me

My name is Meg Portman. I am a 2026 graduate of Berry College in Rome Georgia. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in animal science with a double minor in business and psychology. My journey with horses began when I was 6 years old. I grew up riding in the hunter/jumper ring and switched to western disciplines in college. Since then I have focused my time in the saddle towards barrel racing. When I’m not riding, I teach lessons in riding and horsemanship to a variety of different age groups and skill levels.

My experience with equine bodywork began with the care of my personal horse, Luke. Luke is a 24 year old warmblood that worked for the majority of his life as a top line eventer. With the development of EGUS and varieties of arthritis in his later years, specific bodywork techniques have been one of the main tools I have utilized to keep him happy and healthy in his retirement.

Watching these techniques improve Luke’s qualty of life has motivated me to help others by becoming a certified PEMF practitioner.

What is PEMF?

Pulsed elecrtomagnetic field therapy is a form of non-invasive therapy that penetrates that fascia and works at a cellular level to increase the permiability of the walls of red blood cells. This allows for an increased amount of oxygen to enter the cell wall as well as allowing for toxins to leave the blood stream at a higher rate. This increase of cellular metabolism has a multitude of benefits for all horses ranging from top end performance horses, to retired pasture pets.

The magnetic waves pulsed from the machine penetrate 16 inches into the body, when the waves meet an area of resistance they will cause the muscles to twitch. This resistance indicates an area of inflammation or blockage. In instances where the electromagnetic frequencies are working on breaking through that inflammtion, you will see “releases” through your horse. These releases can be shown as licking, chewing, yawning, stretching, and metabolic movements.
